Shellshock, a Ft. Lauderdale based alternative rock band, debuted in the number one spot on MP3.com's AAA/Alternative charts on December 8, 2001. The band's single, Highway, charted in the top spot ahead of well-known musical acts including Lapdog which features several members of the Gold Album band, Toad the Wet Sprocket. Two other Shellshock songs, Rainy Days and Before, also appeared on the chart at spots nine and eleven respectively. MP3.com is an extremely popular online music portal that allows users to download songs from independent bands all over the world free of charge. The website is one of the most popular of its kind and receives nearly a million visitors per day. With more than 160,000 artists making their music available, the ability to chart in the top spot in their genre is an accomplishment of which Shellshock is extremely proud. Shellshock features four South Florida musicians, Alex Tavares (vocals, guitar), Alex Mirones (keyboard, vocals), Mike Abay (drums), and Uned Correa (bass). After the release of their debut CD, Suburbia, in October, 2001, the band's unique sound garnered immediate attention. Several college radio stations began to play tracks from the CD and requests for CDs at the band's offical website, www.shellshockmusic.com, skyrocketed. Within 7 days of the release of the 4-track CD, orders began pouring in from the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia. Shellshock is now gearing up for their winter tour and preparing an innovative stage show featuring instrumentals influenced by Depeche Mode, The Cure, and U2 that fuse with vocals resembling Dave Matthews and Peter Murphy.
