Hot on the heels of his just-completed acoustic mini tour of the Northeast and Midwest, Ike Reilly and his band will get to hear the performance they taped back in October airing on the National Public Radio show, World Café, next week. The band’s performance will be broadcast on the December 21st edition of the nationally-syndicated radio show. World Café with David Dye is heard on over 180 stations nationwide, and has a huge and loyal listener base (as well as additional listenership online). Fans wishing to listen to their local NPR affiliate can check World Cafe’s website at
worldcafe.org to locate the station in their listening area. Folks around the world can tune in via World Café home station WXPN’s website
(www.xpn.orgt/listen.php) at 2 p.m. eastern time day-of (rebroadcast at 1 a.m. eastern time that night) to catch the amazing performance by The Ike Reilly Assassination.
Following the success of Reilly’s recent acoustic tour, this week he recorded a handful of songs from his last two albums (Sparkle In The Finish and Junkie Faithful) in an acoustic setting. Four or five of these songs will be used for a digital-only EP which will come out in April 2006 and will offer fans a different take on favorite tracks.
After touring the Northeast and Midwest heavily in support of their recently-released album, Junkie Faithful, already this fall, the IRA plans to hit the West Coast and the South in early ’06 to treat fans in those areas to its whip-smart, taut-rock live experience, or as the New York Times recently dubbed it: “…visceral, outlandishly catchy tunes capture a certain kind of cockiness and bar clown wit... Mr. Reilly and his band tear it up live.” Press has also said Junkie Faithful is “rife with angry melodies and politics we’ve come to know and love” (Time Out New York), and “a bold combo of scat-rap lyrics, driving rhythm, slashing guitars, heavenly keyboards and aching, soulful vocals.” (Pulse of the Twin Cities) While some had high praise for his lyrics (“His words, like his personae, shift, bob, and weave, from sage to fool to jester to street-corner prophet.” – Boston Phoenix), the Minneapolis Star-Tribune championed Ike as “…the embodiment of everything great about America, a throwback to a time when people worked hard and chased their dreams and encouraged others to do the same. …Reilly and his band are a scene unto themselves. …they belong to no camp. They are, simply, a great rock 'n' roll band...”
Junkie Faithful was released on Rock Ridge Music in September of this year with national distribution via ADA. The album features twelve outstanding tracks with Mr. Reilly and Company at their best: quirky, lyrically deep, rootsy yet punky, sharp, and witty. A bit of a departure for the band sonically, the album exudes melancholy at times and is clearly the IRA's most unique, engaging, and compelling album to date. With most of the songs written during the band’s extensive touring schedule for Sparkle In The Finish, the album was recorded at Diamond City Studios in Libertyville, IL, and produced by Ed Tinley with additional production by Phil Karnats. The album reflects the amount of touring the band did together in its cohesiveness and solidity and shines because of it. The IRA, which is led by Ike Reilly, is rounded out by Reilly’s long-time bandmates Dave Cottini, drums; Tommy O'Donnell, bass; Phil Karnats, guitar; and Ed Tinley on piano and guitar.
