Former Creed lead singer Scott Stapp and members of the alternative rock group 311 got into an altercation on Thanksgiving at Baltimore’s Harbor Court Hotel, according to billboard.com
According to a post on 311’s website, members Chad Sexton, SA Martinez and P-Nut were watching a basketball game in the lounge of the hotel.
“He appeared intoxicated,” according to the post. “He drank a shot at the bar and then threw his shot glass, smashing it on the bar. He was acting belligerent and got into an argument with patrons sitting at the bar.”
The post went on to say that Stapp sat down next to Martinez’s wife and made a crude remark to her. Sexton asked Stapp to leave, and then Stapp punched him.
A brawl ensued. “Scott was looking for a fight and that’s what he got,” said the post from 311.
Hotel security hotel director Jonathan Jordan told a slightly different story to the Associated Press. “It was definitely started by 311,” Jordan said.
Stapp issued his own statement on December 7th, disputing what 311 said. “This is a very unfortunate situation; however, there are two sides to every story,” Stapp says in the statement. “I was at the hotel celebrating Thanksgiving and my engagement with my new fiancée when the fight started,” Stapp says.
Stapp’s tour manager Rob Kern said in the statement that he talked to the hotel’s front desk and they confirmed that Stapp was not at fault.
311 is sticking with their original story, despite Stapp’s rebuttal. Martinez fractured a knuckle in the fight, said billboard.com.
