Nominations announced for the 48th Annual Grammy Awards

The nominations for the 48th annual Grammy Awards were announced December 8th, with Mariah Carey, John Legend and Kanye West leading the way with eight nominations each. The award ceremony will take place February 8th.
Carey (for “The Emancipation of Mimi”) and West (for “Late Registration”) were both nominated for album of the year, along with Paul McCartney’s “Chaos and Creation in the Backyard,” Gwen Stefani’s “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.,” and U2’s “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.”
Record of the Year features Carey’s “We Belong Together, West’s “Gold Digger,” Gorillaz’s “Feel Good Inc.,” Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl.”
The rock categories had some interesting nominations as well. Best Alternative Music Album features nominations of The Arcade Fire’s “Funeral,” Beck’s “Guero,” Death Cab for Cutie’s “Plans,” Franz Ferdinand’s “You Could Have it So Much Better,” and The White Stripes’ “Get Behind Me Satan.”
The Best Rock Album category features some of the most well-known rock acts out today, as well as some classic rock gods. Coldplay’s “X & Y,” Foo Fighters’ “In Your Honor,” The Rolling Stones’ “A Bigger Bang,” U2’s “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” and Neil Young’s “Prairie Wind” were nominated.
Audioslave’s “Doesn’t Remind Me,” Nine Inch Nails “The Hand that Feeds,” Robert Plant’s “Tin Pan Valley,” Queens of the Stone Age’s “Little Sister” and System of a Down’s “B.Y.O.B.” head the Best Hard Rock Performance Category.
