The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has added rock favorites the Black
Crowes to its diverse lineup. This announcement comes soon after the band sold out its five-night run, to take place March 22-27 (as well as March 29 and 30) at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The Black Crowes put their 15-year, seven-album career on indefinite hiatus in October 2001, when bandleaders and brothers Chris and Rich Robinson decided to part ways to pursue solo projects. Their appearance at Bonnaroo 2005 is the first to be confirmed since the Hammerstein run was announced. This will be the second Bonnaroo appearance for Chris Robinson, who played at Bonnaroo 2004 with his solo project, The New Earth Mud.
Bonnaroo is also pleased to welcome West Coast hip-hop crew Jurassic 5 back for the first time since 2002. The four-MC, two-DJ group performed an explosive set at the first annual Bonnaroo Music Festival, and their
performance of “Countdown” is featured on the 2002 Live From Bonnaroo CD
compilation. Many more acts are still to be announced to round out the
Bonnaroo 2005 lineup.
Confirmed to take place June 10-12, 2005 on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, the fourth annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival will feature dozens of music performances and an array of art and entertainment options. The three-day camping event is a one-of-a-kind cultural happening where top-quality artists perform freewheeling sets for unwaveringly supportive crowds. For its magical atmosphere, Bonnaroo is now recognized as an event where members of an open-minded fan base discover new acts and witness special performances by their current favorites.
Since its inaugural event in June of 2002, Bonnaroo has continued to make a strong impact on the American music industry. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine called Bonnaroo “one of the 50 moments to change the history of rock and roll,” and the New York Times noted, “Bonnaroo, in just its third year, has already revolutionized the modern rock festival.” Bonnaroo has sold out in advance every year, solely via the Internet, with no traditional advertising. Now in its fourth year, the festival is a treasured summertime tradition and the ultimate experience for today’s live music fan.
Bonnaroo has spawned a series of corollary media products, including three volumes of live CDs and two DVD documentaries featuring live footage from the 2002 and 2003 festivals. A CD and DVD from the 2004 festival are planned for release in April 2005. Plans are also in the works for a television broadcast of footage from the festival. Bonnaroo currently offers an array of festival performances for download at Livebonnaroo.com and a 24-hour Internet radio broadcast, known as Radio Bonnaroo, on the festival web site at Bonnaroo.com.
