NEW YORK, Sep 18, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- "SATELLITE," the smash second
Atlantic Records album from P.O.D., has been certified triple platinum by the
RIAA for U.S. sales in excess of 3,000,000 units. The album achieved platinum certification in October 2001, just over a month
after its debut, and double platinum status in March 2002. The triple platinum
announcement comes on the heels of the release of "SATELLITE LIMITED EDITION," a
specially packaged CD/DVD double-disc version of the album. In addition,
"SATELLITE" has now passed the one million mark in sales outside the U.S. In other P.O.D. news, the band will share the stage with Carlos Santana tonight
for a special live performance on the 3rd Annual Latin Grammy Awards show. The
band will join the legendary guitarist to perform the song "America," the
P.O.D.-penned collaboration with Santana slated to appear on the latter's
forthcoming new album, "SHAMAN." The Latin Grammy Awards will be held at the
Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and will be broadcast by the CBS television network
from 9-11 PM (ET/PT). The release of P.O.D.'s "SATELLITE LIMITED EDITION" helped spark a major sales
surge for the album, which leaped a remarkable 48 spots up The Billboard 200 in
a single week (issue dated 9/14/02), earning the magazine's "Pacesetter" award.
After its initial release in September 2001, "SATELLITE" rose to the #6 position
on The Billboard 200, where it now ranks at #33 (up from #36 last week), exactly
one year after its chart debut. "SATELLITE LIMITED EDITION" includes all the
tracks available on the original 2001 "SATELLITE" album release, plus three
bonus audio tracks. The DVD portion features live performances, a
behind-the-scenes look at the recording of "SATELLITE," and profiles of the band
members. "SATELLITE," and "SATELLITE LIMITED EDITION," include the Grammy-nominated smash
single, "Alive," the hit singles "Youth of the Nation," "Boom," and the group's
latest chart-topper, the album title track, "Satellite," which is currently
bulleting up the top 20 at rock and alternative radio nationwide. P.O.D. was recently nominated for a total of six 2002 MTV Video Music Awards,
tying Eminem and Missy Elliott for the most nominations this year. In addition,
the quartet just wrapped up their co-headlining stint on the multi-artist
extravaganza, Ozzfest 2002, which kicked off in Scranton, Pennsylvania on July
10th, and ran through September 8th in Dallas, Texas. Atlantic will release P.O.D.'s first full-length commercial DVD video, "STILL
PAYIN' DUES," in November 2002. For additional information, please see The Atlantic Group website at
