The Brothers re-emerge with a remix of Fatboy Slim's next single The Chemical Brothers have taken a break from recording their new album to remix Fatboy Slim's "Song For Shelter" from his latest album, "Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars". "Song For Shelter" is expected to be the next single from the album and is set for release in mid-March via Skint Records. The second single, "Demons", which features vocalist Macy Gray, was released last week and has entered the UK charts at number 16. The Chemical Brothers are currently working on the follow up to 1999's "Surrender". Their remix of "Song For Shelter" is the first they have done since Primal Scream's "Swastika Eyes" in 1999. The new remix is described as being "another typical Chemical Brothers production. They've kept the key elements of the track but now it pumps even harder". Although Chemical Brothers, Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, have been friends with Fatboy Slim for some years now, it is the first time the two big name dance acts have ever worked together. According to Fatboy Slim, it was the Chemical Brothers who initially encouraged him to start working with vocalists when he was planning the latest album. Having previously worked largely with vocal samples, Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, claimed to be unsure of how to go about approaching vocalists to work with, to which the Chemicals answered "just phone them up!". Their valuable advice led to a number of vocal collaborations on "Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars". "Song For Shelter" features vocals by Roland Clarke and has been named by Fatboy Slim as his favourite track on the album. It is also a highly driven dancefloor number and stands out from the rest of the album for this very reason. For Norman Cook, "Song For Shelter" was all about going back to his roots musically as well as capturing a little of the driving force that has inspired him to continue making music. It therefore seems appropriate that "Song For Shelter" has been remixed by dance music's biggest stars. The track has also been reworked by X-Press 2, which is a current project of producer Ashley Beedle. Click here to listen to the interview with Norman Cook in which he talks about "Song For Shelter" and describes his crisis previous to the release of his last album, when he felt caught halfway between being a big name dance producer and a pop celebrity. A Chemical Brother's remix plus his recent Muzik award should allay any further fears he has about being accepted in the dance world. (Watch video) ANÉCDOTA Due to the recent birth of his son Woody, Norman Cook is currently spending time at home with his new family. If, however, you are keen to see the man in action at one of his famous DJ sets, why not check out Fatboy Tim. In the same vein as the Bootleg Beatles and the Australian Doors, Fatboy Tim promises to provide a tribute worthy of the real thing. Many rock bands may have tribute bands but Fatboy Slim is the world's first DJ to have a tribute act. Music to read, see and hear, opinions and to buy visit, DOCTORMUSIC.COM.
