U2 Hit Inspired by Cancer-Stricken Pal

U2 frontman BONO has revealed how their number one hit BEAUTIFUL DAY was inspired by a friend being diagnosed with cancer.

The Irish icon explains that the message behind the big hit song was one of freedom.

He says, "I have a friend who is quite famous in the world of computers. He was busy running his business and never left his desk for years. Then he was diagnosed with cancer. "When he got the news he said to himself,'God, I have had no life, what am I going to do?' So he went out and started meeting people again, and couldn't believe it was so much fun. And that cured him. He never went back behind that desk again.

"I think there's a huge freedom in knowing that you need a lot less than you can imagine." (RXT/IST/KW)
