LOOKING for an album to buy with those Christmas record tokens? ANDY COLEMAN's top ten albums of 2001 may give you some ideas

1. The Strokes 'Is This It'. Retro punk and rock that recalls those great early days of the Ramones and Television.

2. The White Stripes 'White Blood Cells'. Well hyped but, for once, worthy of the fuss.

3. The Waterboys 'Too Close To Heaven'. The leftovers from 'Fisherman's Blues' sound even better than the songs chosen for the original album.

4. Spiritualized 'Let It Come Down'. An epic album from a man with epic ambitions.

5. Super Furry Animals 'Rings Around TheWorld'. Spectacular, sprawling and great fun.

6. ELO 'Zoom'. Jeff Lynne goes back to ELO basics for a record that sounds like it's escaped from the seventies.

7.Stereophonics 'Just Enough Education to Perform'. A grower. The songs come alive when performed live.

8. Train 'Drops Of Jupi-ter'. All new American rock should be this good.

9. Elton John 'Songs From The West Coast'. If this really is his last album, Elton's going out on a winner.

10.Ozzy Osbourne 'Down To Earth'. He may be reliving past glories with Black Sabbath but the boy from Aston shows he can still cut it on his own.
